3. What are your candles made of?

Our candles are made using 100% Pure USA triple-filtered chemical-free beeswax, and 100% cotton square braid wicks. Our beeswax is 100% USA sourced. Although less expensive beeswax can be sourced from outside of the United States, we cannot guarantee that the rendering process is chemical and pesticide free. At 1207 Wax Works, we prioritize ethical practices and the health and safety of our product, from hive to home.

4. What is my candle turning white?

Fear not! Your candle is "blooming"!

Bloom on a beeswax candle refers to the natural, powdery, or cloudy coating that can appear on the surface of the candle over time. This effect occurs when the beeswax, which is a natural product, releases its own oils, typically due to temperature changes.

This bloom is completely harmless and does not affect the candle’s quality or performance. In fact, it's a sign that the beeswax is pure and has not been overly processed or altered. Many dedicated beeswax candle users come to love the bloom as it is a sign of wax purity and adds to the unique charm and aesthetic of a beeswax candle.

If you do not like the look of beeswax bloom, there is a remedy! To remove the bloom, you need only to warm the wax. You can accomplish this though the heat of your hands, or a blow dryer on a low to medium setting. Be careful not to heat the wax so much to the point of melting, so as not to melt the intricate designs of some of our candles!

5. How do I make my candles last longer?

To make your candles burn longer, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each use, avoid drafts, and allow the candle to burn long enough for the wax to melt evenly across the top and reaches the outer edge. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn.

6. What is the best way to extinguish a candle?

The best way to extinguish a candle is to use a candle snuffer or wick dipper. Both methods reduce smoke and wax splatter. Alternatively, you can blow it out gently, but always be careful not to splash hot wax.

7. Why is my candle tunneling?

Tunneling occurs when a candle burns down the center, leaving a ring of wax around the edge. This happens when the candle is not burned long enough during the first use. If the tunnel goes deep enough, your candle will no longer remain lit as not enough oxygen is reaching the flame.

Pro Tips to Avoid Tunneling:

This is especially important for pillar candles. Pillar candles are designed to be their own "container", therefore pillar candles should never drip or spill over their edges.

The first burn is crucial. On the initial burn, let the candle burn until the melted wax pool reaches the candle's edges without spilling over.

After each burn, "hug" the candle by gently squeezing the sides of the pillar candle in towards the center to encourage the wax to melt evenly from the edges towards the center.

8. Can I burn candles around pets?

Do you love pets?! We love pets!

Candles can be safe around pets if precautions are taken. Never leave a candle unattended around pets, and keep the candle out of your pet's reach.

9. How can I get rid of candle wax stains?

To remove candle wax stains from fabrics, scrape off any excess wax, then place a paper towel or cloth over the stain and use an iron on a low setting to melt the remaining wax. The wax will be absorbed by the paper towel. For hard surfaces, use a plastic scraper and warm water to clean up the residue.

10. Is it safe to burn candles every day?

Burning candles daily is generally safe as long as proper safety precautions are followed.

Never leave a candle unattended.

Keep candles away from things that catch fire.

Keep away from children and pets.

Additionally,

Always remove your candle from packaging

Always trim wick to 1/4 inch each time candle is lit

Keep wax pool free of debris (like wick trimmings and matches)

Always burn candles in/on a holder specifically designed for candle use - flat, heat-resistant surface, large enough to contain drips.

Avoid drafts and excessive vibrations

Do not burn candle for more than 4 hours at a time (unless shorter burn time is recommended)

Discontinue use when only 1/2 inch of wax remains

Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting.

Ideally, use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish your candle.

Never use water to extinguish a candle.

11. What is the best holder for my candle?

The Fernwood - heat resistance candle plate with spike

The Skull - heat resistance candle plate

The Skull Tower - heat resistance candle plate

The Hive - heat resistance candle plate/holder

The Votive - votive candle holder

The Peony - heat resistance candle plate

The Succulent - heat resistance candle plate

12. Why does my candle have black soot around the wick?

Black soot around the wick can occur if the candle is burned in a drafty area or if the wick is too long. To prevent soot, trim the wick before each use and burn the candle in a location free of drafts.

13. Are your candles safe for people with allergies?

Scented candles can cause allergic reactions or irritation in some people, especially those with respiratory issues like asthma. None of our candles have added scent.

If you experience any reaction or irritation when burning one of our candles, discontinue use and reach out to 1207waxworks@gmail.com for assistance.

14. How do I choose the right candle for my space?

Larger candles are great for larger rooms, as they provide a more significant source of light and fragrance. Smaller candles are ideal for smaller spaces, such as bathrooms and bedrooms. When choosing the size of your candle, consider the size of your room and the desired ambiance.
